Do I Need My Turf Cleaned?

Artificial grass may seem low-maintenance, but over time, it can accumulate dirt, bacteria, and odors that regular home care just can’t handle. Here are some key signs it’s time to call in the experts:

Foul Odors

Unpleasant smells, especially from pet waste, are a clear sign your turf needs deep cleaning and deodorizing.

Weed or Moss Growth

Visible weeds or moss popping up between the fibers indicate the need for weed control and thorough cleaning.

Worsened Drainage

If water is pooling on the surface or the turf is slow to drain, it may need a deep clean to unclog the infill and fibers.

Matting or Flattened Turf

When the blades of turf look flat, matted, or uneven, it’s a sign that your turf needs power brushing and revitalization.

Excessive Pet Hair Build Up

Turf that’s covered in pet hair, especially in homes with multiple pets, will benefit from pet hair removal and sanitization.

Slippery Surfaces

If your turf feels slippery underfoot, it could be due to dirt buildup and algae, indicating a need for cleaning and fiber flushing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the best time of year to have my turf cleaning done?

Ideally once in November after the leaves have fallen, and again in the springtime to have it looking brand new again for your backyard BBQ’s! We can also give your grass a powerbroom to get it cleaned before your next big party. Dog owners usually opt to have the sanitation service done on a quarterly basis.

The best place to start is with a leaf blower to clear off organic debris. You can also  use lawn rakes with plastic tines or stiff-bristle push brooms, as these will do no damage to the grass blades or the backing of the turf. Beyond that, our turf cleaning pros have specialized cleaning equipment that the average homeowner wouldn’t own.

Turf Cleaning Service starts at $225/visit for a smaller Vancouver yard, and goes up with size and distance from Vancouver. We also offer commercial cleaning for Stratas and a discounted rate for clients that had their turf installed by us! Click the “pricing” tab to learn more or “Book a Turf Clean” for an instant quote on your synthetic lawn.

This can be a tricky battle once the moss has taken over, but the best way to eliminate moss is by aggressively scrubbing the surface with a wire brush and/or applying some moss-remover or vinegar water. Moss is caused by retained moisture in the turf, especially with south-facing yards. For moss growing in the taller artificial grass, we suggest using a fork to pick out the moss clumps… or simply hire the Turf Clean Team to get it done for you!

Almost never! Once the infill goes in, it rarely comes out, however heavy foot traffic turf areas require top-ups more frequently. Some dog-owners like to top up their Envirofill every couple of years to combat pet urine odors, but when your turf was installed, we applied 1.5-2 lbs/square foot. A good rule of thumb is that the infill should cover one third of the grass blades.

Usually, Yes! When we completed your project, we left a small piece of “repair turf” with you, that matches the exact same dye lot. Just give us a call and one of our repair technicians will seamlessly blend in a new piece on their next visit!

No worries! If hosing off the area doesn’t work, you can use any hold-house cleaning products. If it’s a paint spill, we may have to replace that patch with the repair piece, or you might be able to cut the affected turf blades with a pair of scissors.

Over time, the organic debris can provide the nutrients for weeds to grow on your turf. Most of the time, these weeds are easy to pull out because the roots are shallow, but spraying weed killer is also effective, and will do no harm to the turf.

On occasion, yes! While artificial grass is very low-maintenance compared to alternatives, it is not “zero-maintenance” like some turf companies may advertise. Consider it an outdoor carpet, would you go an entire year without vacuuming or cleaning your carpet? We realize most home owners don’t want to spend their precious weekend cleaning their outdoor space, so let us take care of that for you!

Not necessarily, if you want to go rent some power equipment and spend a Saturday afternoon cleaning your turf we’re not here to stop you! If you prefer to leave it to the experts and reclaim your time, then we’re here to help!

No, everything we use is safe and sanitary for your entire family with one exception: In special cases where we need to apply moss or weed killer, it is recommended to keep them off the turf until the following day, other than that, they can play away!
